SIHH 2015 trends #2: skeleton watches

At the Geneva High Watchmaking fair we appreciated some new versions of squelette movements. Skeleton watches introduced in SIHH 2015 have a modern style, with a very different look from the classic squelette watch.

Cartier, within the Haute Horlogerie collection, introduced a Crash watch with a Manufacture Cartier calibre conceived to adapt to the ponty case of this unconventional watch. The caliber 9618 MC becomes the dial of the watch: its skeleton roman numbers take the place of the movement’s bridges.

Also Parmigiani Fleurier introduces a squelette watch inside the Tonda 1950 case. Unconventionally for a skeleton movement, it is an automatic caliber with the platinum micro-rotor decorated with a pattern formed of Parmigiani Fleurier’s iconic lugs. Each bridge and main plate of the PF705 calibre movement has been exquisitely openworked and decorated. No fewer than 127 internal angles adorn the main plate and bridges, requiring 40 hours of decorative work per piece. While the dial on the men’s watch is perfectly polished and transparent, the ladies’ model features a subtly frosted dial, with a translucent misty effect.
