Evergreen watches: the Santos de Cartier

Only one watch could celebrate 100 years from its creation: the Santos de Cartier, the really first male wristwatch.

Alberto Santos-Dumont, a joung aviator from Brasil, had the idea of a watch to be worn on the wrist in order to be easily readable while flying on an airplane. He asked to his friend Louis Cartier to develop it, and in 1904 the wristwatch -that today still has the Santos name- was born.

Alberto Santos-Dumont is nowadays probably more famous because of his contribute to watchmaking than to his aviation success. However he was famous because of his 14-Bis, the first engine airplane that allowed him to fly over Paris.

Sill nowadays Cartier celebrates its history and design: the Santos collection includes today many models with different shapes and materials. Among them, you can distinguish the Santos-Dumont for its rectangular shape; the Santos-Galbée for the visible screws; the Santos 100, made to celebrate the centenary of the watch, for its XXL size; the Santos Demoiselle, the smallest size for lady, called as the airplane of Santos-Dumont.
